Welcome To 1st Grade GRIP!

GRIP = Greater Reading Instruction Program

This is Crosby's version of the state's Accelerated Reading Mandate. Our goal is to provide additional reading instruction for students who would benifit from more individualized instruction. This is done through intense one-on-one or small group activities. These activities include phonemic awareness, phonic instruction, leveled reading materials, and manipulatives.






Ideas for Parents

Listen to your child read every night.
Practice/play rhyming games.
Read to your child.

Things to do to help your child improve his comprehension skills.

Ask him questions about a story you have read or one he has read.

Have him retell the story in his own words.

Ask him what will happen next or what happened after a certain event.
Plan a trip to the public library and help your child select a book that interests him.


Cut a comic out of the newspaper and have your child sequence the pictures in the comic strip.
